HONORARY DOCTORATE – PRINCIPLES & CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATE SELECTION

GENERAL PRINCIPLES

1. Commitment to Humanitarian Values:
Candidates must have demonstrated a profound commitment to humanitarian values, promoting peace, inclusivity, and social justice on a global scale. Their life's work should align with the principles of Indo Global Human Peace University Virtual Institute, focusing on creating a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities.

2. Outstanding Contributions to Knowledge and Society:
Nominees should have made exceptional and enduring contributions to their respective fields, significantly advancing knowledge and contributing to the betterment of society. Their work should reflect a commitment to excellence, innovation, and positive change.

3. Exemplary Leadership and Integrity:
Candidates must exhibit exemplary leadership qualities, demonstrating integrity, ethics, and a sense of responsibility in their professional and personal endeavors. Their leadership should inspire others to contribute positively to the world.

4. Global Perspective and Collaboration:
The nominee's contributions should reflect a global perspective, fostering collaboration and understanding across cultural, social, and geographical boundaries. Their efforts should contribute to building bridges and promoting a sense of unity among diverse communities.

5. Impact on Education and Empowerment:
The candidate's work should have a substantial impact on education and empowerment, whether through innovative educational initiatives, research, or advocacy. CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATE SELECTION

1. Nomination and Recommendation:
Candidates for an Honorary Doctorate should be nominated by individuals familiar with their work and accomplishments. Nominations must be accompanied by detailed recommendations outlining the nominee's contributions to humanity, society, and their field of expertise.

2. Evidence of Impact:
Nominees should provide evidence of the tangible impact of their work. This may include publications, projects, testimonials, or any other documentation that illustrates the significance of their contributions.

3. Alignment with University Values:
Candidates must demonstrate a clear alignment with the values and mission of Indo Global Human Peace University Virtual Institute. Their work should resonate with the principles of promoting peace, education, and global understanding.

4. Endorsements and Letters of Support:
Strong endorsements and letters of support from recognized authorities, institutions, or individuals in the nominee's field will be considered favorably. These endorsements should highlight the nominee's outstanding contributions and character.

5. Ongoing Relevance:
The candidate's work should continue to be relevant and have a lasting impact. A focus on sustainability and ongoing contributions to positive change will be key considerations in the selection process.

The selection committee will thoroughly review nominations, considering both the general principles and specific criteria outlined above, to ensure that the conferred Honorary Doctorate aligns with the values and mission of Indo Global Human Peace University Virtual Institute.

 

HONORARY DEGREES COMMITTEE
The Honorary Degrees Committee is appointed annually by Senate and consists of the Registrar and such other members of Senate as determined from time to time by Senate. The duty of the Committee is to select persons to be recommended to Senate for the conferment of Honorary Degrees.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS TO SENATE
( 1 ) The Honorary Degrees Committee shall submit a Motion for the award of Honorary Degrees in the form of a written report which shall be made available to members of Senate at least two days before the Ordinary Meeting at which it is to be presented.

( 2 ) The names of those recommended for Honorary Degrees are confidential until approved by Senate and offers have been accepted by candidates.

 

DOCUMENT CHECKLIST( Common for Honorary Doctorate & Honorary Awards )
Nominations submitted without the following documents will be returned to the Nominator:

A letter from the Nominator describing reasons for nominating the Nominee, including contributions or special accomplishments of the Nominee, and any other information which the Nominator feels may be pertinent to the nomination.
Letters of Support (no more than three).
Nominee’s abridged curriculum vitae containing details such as education, a field of endeavor a short description of publications (if any), specials awards, and distinguished service.
A short biographical summary (maximum 200 words), which will form the basis of the citation at convocation should the Nominee be chosen as an honorary degree recipient.

 

AWARDING
Honorary degree recipients are invited to give the Convocation address but may decline the invitation to do so.
Honorary degrees are not awarded in absentia.
Honorary degrees are not awarded posthumously. An exception may be made in the case of the honor having been accepted and arrangements made for its awarding prior to the death of the nominee.
The citation for the honorary degree should be no longer than three minutes in length. In accordance with Council Bylaws, “each recipient of an honorary degree shall be presented for admission [to the degree] by the Director or by a person designated for that purpose by the Director”
REVOKING ( Common for Honorary Doctorate & Award )
The Senate may revoke an honorary degree and all the rights and privileges connected therewith.” The Senate would consider revoking the degree on the recommendation of the Honorary Degrees Committee, by means of a vote.

Degree Certificates and Letters Policy
Once your Doctorate degree has been conferred at a Doctorate ceremony either in person or in absentia, you will automatically receive a Doctorate degree certificate. This will be either presented to you by your Co-Ordinator on the day of the Convocation ceremony or posted to you after the event.
For all ceremonies, if you have not received your degree certificate within three months of the date of your ceremony and you fail to notify us of this within that period, you will be charged for a replacement certificate.

Students who have completed an award bearing non-matriculated course (certificate or diploma) with the Department for Continuing Education will receive an award certificate from the Department.

Electronic copies, PDFs or scanned versions of certificates  issued at any time.

Replacement Certificates :

If your Doctorate degree certificate is lost, stolen or damaged, you can order a replacement certificate at a cost. Please note that students are only permitted to have one copy of their certificate in their possession at any one time, so multiple copies cannot be requested.

If you graduated prior to January 2020 and did not receive your degree certificate following the ceremony, you are entitled to request a free copy.

Certificates can be ordered through the University Mail system . Certificates ordered for delivery to the INDIA will be sent by Professional Courier, orders for overseas locations will be sent by a tracked and signed for courier service at a cost of £20 for European addresses and £25 for rest of world. You may also choose to collect your order from the Regional Centers of  Indo Global Human Peace University Virtual Institute
